33 Bow Street

Portsmouth, NH

Photography: Kimberly Roseberry

The structure here at 33 Bow Street on the waterfront in Portsmouth has its origins as an early 19th century industrial warehouse building.  It is a highly visible location at the end of a series of rowhouses in the Historic District.  In the intervening years, a series of unlikely additions were built that included new casement and bow windows, an added bay clad with wood clapboards and even a roof top greenhouse.

In our design, a new top floor was added, new windows and shutters were installed and two new French doors open to a generous balcony and balconette with new railings of custom wrought iron.  Glen Gary Thin Brick was used to clad the new top floor to reduce weight on the old masonry walls.
