Union Lofts

Portsmouth, NH

The Union Lofts is a multi-family housing project located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The goal of the project is to create a market rate cluster of four duplex townhouses in a dense residential zone within walking distance of downtown. The eight units will include the required parking on the site and a communal open space in the center of the lot. The units feature loft-type open space in the main living level over a grade-level carport and workspace.

A critical aspect of the design is to formulate a modular construction technique that is appropriate to the site and that will have a minimum impact on the neighborhood during construction. The entire design team is focused on creating a project that expresses the principles of sustainable architecture.
