Concord Main Street

Concord, NH

Renderings: Shaun Donnelly

The design utilizes a series of interlocking forms that range from three to six stories in height and alternate in a horizontal pattern to the streetscape. The variety and placement of these forms are reflective of the scale, height and massing of the typical nineteenth century and early twentieth century commercial buildings that line Main Street in Concord.

The exterior materials portrayed are honest and historic in nature, primarily emphasizing the use of brick, stone and glass. Each façade varies in character and is distinctly different in composition.

The exterior details and the patterns of the materials, such as the eaves, roof forms and the placement of doors, windows and banding are contemporary and do not replicate earlier architectural styles.

It is critical to the design that it stand on its own and of its own time. We believe that a successful design for this site should be respectful of its historic context without directly imitating its features.  This philosophy is consistent with the Secretary of Interior’s Guidelines for Historic Preservation and is an appropriate urban design for this important site.
