The Sherburne House

Portsmouth, NH

Photography: Kimberly Roseberry

This is another renovation project for a home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a Georgian era property located in Portsmouth. The building had been moved to the current location in an effort to save it from demolition in the late 1960’s. It was renovated at that time for commercial use and our mandate was to restore the building and return it to residential use. This involved adding a new kitchen, a residential elevator, and completely replacing the mechanical and electrical systems. A new sunroom, dormer and shutters consistent with the period were added.

We were able to research and document the original front door surround and provide the carved wood ornamental architectural elements that once graced the entrance. This could not have been achieved without builder Carl Aichele’s skilled workmen and a patient and persistent owner, Fred Lowell.
