We are currently designing a new brewery complex for the Smuttynose Brewing Company of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The new brewery building is to be one component of this site, which will also include the potential for four additional buildings. It is critical to the success of the project that the building and landscape designs are consistent with the principals of sustainable design. We are exploring energy efficient and sustainable design features throughout the design and construction process with the goal to produce a high quality LEED-certified project.
The project consists of a new brewery facility for the complete production of beer in barrel and bottled form. This requires accommodation for the delivery of materials required for the production, all steps in the manufacture of beer as well as its storage, bottling and shipping. The brewing function will require almost ten thousand square feet and be housed in a taller structure approximately thirty-six feet tall; the bottling functions will require approximately three thousand five hundred square feet and the warehousing and storage functions will require approximately twenty-two thousand square feet (in a structure approximately twenty-four feet high). There will be three thousand five hundred square feet allowed for administrative offices on a second floor level.
There will also be a full service restaurant of approximately eight thousand square feet that will include an outdoor dining area. There is planned a major courtyard area that will connect the brewing, bottling and restaurant functions that will include an open arcade to provide a unifying element to the design of the main public entrance. |
